While I would guess that what you heard was a Nighthawk if it sounded like
the recording, I imagine they are in decline in Edmunds as it becomes more
suburbanized. Do you see a lot of crows in your neighborhood? They usually
increase as an area becomes more urbanized (or maybe more so as it becomes
suburbanized). If the theory that crow population growth is the largest
reason for their decline in the urban and suburban areas is correct, then in
order to keep the Nighthawks you may have to insist that you are right about
something that you are terribly wrong about and get caught being wrong. The
bird you are forced to eat may save the one that many of us love so much.
