They're back! Early turkey vulture migrants have arrived, the few wintering
ones are still hanging around, and there's a big push through northern
California and into Oregon now. We should be seeing a lot more than singles
soon.

Following is the February 2005 report for turkey vultures seen in Oregon,
Washington, and British Columbia:

04 -- 1 flying near Roche Harbor
07 -- 1 in Graham north of the dead animal hauler; 1 over Hammond Bay Road
in Nanaimo, B.C. (first seen of the year)
08 -- 1 at Graham; 1 at Eatonville
16 -- northward movements of turkey vultures through Oregon (OBOL)
18 -- 1 soaring east of Sequim
20 -- 1 low over wheat fields near Coulee City
22 -- 4 heading north just south of Kelso
23 -- 2 at Graham; 2 heading north over the south end of Hood Canal; turkey
vultures continuing to be conspicuous migrants over Oregon (OBOL)
24 -- 1 circling over Fort Vancouver historical site
25 -- 2 over highways 161/304
26 -- 1 near the Lone Fir Cemetery near Willapa Bay NWR; 1 over Lake Kapowsin
27 -- 1 being harrassed by an accipiter over Ballard
28 -- 1 coursing eastwards up the Skagit Valley east of Sedro-Woolley

Keep looking up . . . "up" means sandhill cranes, eagles, swans, and turkey
vultures, just to mention a few.
