For what it's worth, we still receive Western Screech Owls at PAWS Wildlife Center on a regular basis. We have admitted a total of 26 of them (mostly window strikes and vehicle collisions) in the past 4 years.

Dear Tweeters,

I second Scott Atkinson's remarks--Western Screech
Owls do seem to be getting harder and harder to find.
I used to count on at least two or three sightings of
this species every year, here in Skagit County. I have
not found any since 1998, even though I have gone back
to some of my old trusty spots quite a few times.
