Hi Tweeters,

Medina Park Great Blue Herons very active and
beautiful in the morning light this morning. The
nests sit in the tree in a vertical stack from most
visible angles. The top nest had a pair face to face
billing each other and showing off their long black
plumes on top of their head in the morning light. The
second nest down was seriously into nest decorating.
The third nest down appears to be on eggs already.
The fourth nest was vacant. Many herons about,
especially in the fir trees. Herons were displaying
vigorously from their spots in the fir trees. Not
sure if this might mean more nests or not. A very
nice lady who I see walking her 2 black labs every
morning said she saw 15 herons in flight the other day
circling the area. The herons were not particularly
vocal at the time of their flight, just seemed to be
cruising around up there. Interesting. Green Heron
this morning and two bright Eurasian Wigeons as well.

Here at work not so much happening in the behavior
watching department this week. The Starling feather
spot from earlier this week had all the feathers
removed. Either someone is nest building already or
there is a packrat who collected them. Nice to hear
the White-crowned Sparrows really tuning up near Agua
Verde when I ate lunch there on Tuesday.
