Gene, It looks like you're going to have to start coasting down some hills!! Keep the reports coming, though. I, for one, enjoy them. -Rolan

As you may recall I finished January with 144 species but slightly over quota at 555 miles = 20.6 gallons. My goal is to finish the year under 6000 miles or 240 gallons while seeing over 300 species in Washington), or 1.25 birds per gallon over the year. At the end of January I was at 7 birds per gallon cumulative, but that rate is doomed to decline as the months progress
February unfortunately didn't improve my score. I'm up to 172 species for the state so far. However, chasing the Cape May Warbler east of Spokane ruined my monthly mileage total, which came to 630 miles, including my share (1/20th) of an 80 mile pelagic trip off Westport [at an estimated 4 gallons per mile!]. Taking ride sharing and variable mileage ratings of vehicles into account, I burned 40.1 gallons in February alone. So for January and February I've burned 60.7 gallons chasing birds, or 2.83 birds per gallon.
I'll have to stay home most of March to get back on target, as I've less than 180 gallons remaining in my tank!
