Subject: [Tweeters] More on Anna's and the first Rufous

Daily sugar consumption has continued to decline - today it was 12g, down
from 15.5g a week ago. The evening bird count has remained fairly constant
at 5 or 6 males and 1 or 2 females - all Anna's. I checked the yard several
times today and there was little or no activity. Only one Anna's was singing
in the distance, and there was no sign of Attila.

At about 5pm I heard a male Rufous buzzing, and he arrived at the feeders a
couple of minutes later. He used both the backyard feeders, and spent some
time in the small tree near them. He seemed somewhat unsettled, and did not
perch in the same place that Eric (the dominant male Rufous last year) used
to frequent. I was wondering if he had driven off the Anna's when they
returned at about 5:30. Attila went straight into the attack, and the Rufous
was driven away immediately. The usual evening feeding ritual then unfolded.

There has been no sign of any nesting activity.
