Hi Tweeters,
The Medina herons have a new twist this year. I only
seem to get there Fri mornings. Today the lowest nest
was gone. The nice photographer lady was there again
this morning (sorry can't recall your name) said the
lowest nest was "cannabalized", as in the other herons
stole all the sticks from it. The largest lowest nest
seems to have stolen the most. This nest is getting
very large. This nest is the original first nest
built in the cottonwood tree two years ago.
Two new nests are going in! But not in the original
tree, they are in the fir trees between the two ponds.
I couldn't see them so well because of the morning
fog. The herons are still displaying and adding
sticks to their nests. Fun time to see them.
Also Green Heron and Eurasian Wigeon present today.
Here are some directions:
>From I-5 take 520 east. Take first exit after going
over Lake Washington. Take a right. Go straight for
aprox 1 mile until you reach 5-way STOP. Take a
right. The park will be on your left after the turn.
Park in the NE 12th parking lot and the original nest
tree is at the pond right at the parking lot.
>From I-405 take NE 8th exit, go west. NE 8th passes
Bellevue Square, winds a little and turns into NE
12th. At the 5-way STOP go straight and the park is
on your left. Park in the NE 12th parking lot and the
original tree is at the pond right at the parking lot.
