Elaine and I found a Long-billed Curlew in an alfalfa field just east of Othello today. But this was not the first of the year. Jane Grant reported one on the Royal Slope 11 miles west of Othello Wednesday. This is 1-2 weeks ahead of schedule. We had a pair of Burrowing Owls same area east of town, and a Merlin. Burrowing Owls are either late this year or quite low in numbers compared to past years. More cranes arriving daily, lots of swallows. Also a Short-eared Owl 10 miles east of Othello along SR 26.
