We do a variation of this once a year for the Birdathon, our Audubon
chapter's main fundraiser. Obviously we don't speed, throw rocks into
wetlands or violate any of the ethics listed by the ABA. We may, however,
spend only a couple of minutes in a location. There's no sin in quickly
moving on if an area seems deserted. I've seen people do this during the
hallowed CBCs, too.
The money raised goes for all kinds of activities that benefit birds and
their habitat. A 2nd component is that we are learning more about spring
bird migration on Whidbey Island.
I guess anything ( birding included) can be taken to an illogical
extreme.
