Subject: [Tweeters] "Red"-footed Ring-bill

Some years ago, there were significant numbers of gulls, mostly
California if I remember correctly, on southern and western Vancouver
Island that had highly coloured bills and feet. Not red, but a
startlingly rich orange-yellow. There were far too many to be explained
as a genetic aberration, and we assumed it must have been caused by a
variation in diet at some point. Also, occasionally gulls are marked
with spray paint by fishers as a sort of joke.
