Lydia and Tweeters,

Now this may just be voodoo or hocus pocus but I'll pass this along -
for what it's worth.

I just returned from a week in the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas. We
stopped at a feeding station by the river in Salineno run by a wonderful
couple, the DeWinds. We noticed some quarter-sized washers hanging from
fishing line - suspended about 4-6 inches above the ground. Ms DeWind
explained that since they had put those up, the population of house
sparrows at the feeders had plummeted. She says they were skeptical at
first and it took them a year to try it out but they're glad they did.

Heck, it's not expensive, give it a try!

What do I do about HOUSE SPARROWS eating my feeder dry???? They swarm
my big old rhody bush and fight over spots at the feeder.

How can I encourage the "good" birds? For awhile I had BC and CB
chickadees and song sparrows and an occasional junco..but now its just
the junk birds.even starlings have been picking at the ground below the
feeder. Advice please!!!!!
