A word about protecting mason bee houses from predators. Woodpeckers seem
to LOVE our mason bees, and no matter how far away from feeders the blocks
are located, the woodpeckers WILL find them. Around mid-summer, our
hairies, flickers and pileated begin to happily destroy our mason bee homes.
We've found that a big ring of something like chicken wire around the block
allows the bees in, and makes it harder for the woodpeckers to get at the
holes.

Subject: [Tweeters] Mason Bees

Hi folks,

This is a little off subject but maybe someone knows on this list?

I purchased a Mason Bee block (sans bees) and want to hang it in a safe
place. The instructions say away from bird feeders and under the eaves of
your house. We have bird feeders and a bat house on both the east side and
west side of the house. How far away should the block be from the feeders
and bat house?
