If you found yourself with 8 hours to kill in Wenatchee, how would you
proceed? The ever prepared tweeter would begin by looking up Wenatchee
in the index of his A BIRDERS GUIDE TO WASHINGTON. The guide describes
two areas to bird in Wenatchee and another just north of town.

1. No. 2 Canyon
2. Confluence State Park-Horan Natural Area-Walla Walla Point Park.
3. Swakane Canyon

While birding all three will give you a pleasant variety of species, the
only one that offers a memorable wilderness experience is Swakane. If
you go, while you may be able to get your Fairlane 500 a couple miles up
the canyon road, it won't be long before you find yourself wishing you
had brought the Range Rover.

The three locations produced an almost 50 species day. The second best
bird of the day award goes to an attractive drake Cinnamon Teal at
Horan. The coveted best bird award goes to.......Chukar! Five
individuals were found two miles up Swakane.

It was a good day.
