Friday at Nisqually was another great day. A reasonably warm morning with
enough light for good views and pictures and, as usual, subjects for doing
so.
The highlight of the day was watching the GREAT HORNED OWL and chicks.
While I was there only one chick put in a appearance, but he posed well. Mom
seemed tired and had her eyes closed most of the time. When she did finally
look around, only one eye was fully open and I had the impression the other
may be injured. Something others may watch for. At one point she gave a
large yawn before returning to the closed eye mode.
Other birds are preparing for their young. Observed a COMMON BUSHTiT
building a nest about 3 feet off the boardwalk, and out the riverside trail,
a BEWICK'S WREN was carrying material into an opening in an alder tree.
The birds are starting to sing with some vigor. I'm not sure but I thought
I heard SWAINSON'S THRUSH near the barns, but when I tried to track it down
it stopped.
