This is the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society Bird Alert for March 28,

The initial swallows have arrived, soon there will be many more. On March
18, Laurie Ness found VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS near McMurray and Pike Streets
in Richland.

Also on the 18th, Nancy Stansbury reported the return of GREAT EGRETS to
the heronry seen from the outflow at the end of Columbia River Road in Pasco.

On March 20, Bob Woodley found CLIFF SWALLOWS near the Acme Plant off Aaron
Road in Richland.

Ruth Fischer reported a group of TREE SWALLOWS at her home across from the
Chamna Preserve in Richland on March 21.

On March 24, Bob Woodley relocated 4 AMERICAN AVOCETS at the Yakima
Delta. The next day he found 30 DUNLIN and 3 GREATER YELLOWLEGS there. He
also found 42 DUNLIN at the Acme Plant.

Bob and Charlie Woodley had a grand birding day on March 26. They found 2
LONG-BILLED CURLEW along Horn Rapids Road off Stevens in North
Richland. At the Tyson Ponds (formerly Iowa Beef ) in Wallula they found a
EURASIAN WIGEON and 5 DUNLIN. There were TREE SWALLOWS at the overlook at
Madame Dorian Park in Wallula. At the Acme ponds they found a 2
BLACK-NECKED STILTS, 1 AMERICAN AVOCET and 7 male YELLOW-HEADED
BLACKBIRDS. They also reported the return of a nesting FERRUGINOUS HAWK to
the Hanford area.

Regan Weeks reported a BAND-TAILED PIGEON at her home in Ranch Reata in
Kennewick on March 27. It was still present in the morning on the
28th. The address is 268 Mata Road. Please respect private property when
you visit and look from the driveway using your car as a blind if possible.
