Jim Brewster's comments about east and west ("never the twain shall
meet") may still hold true, but the connections are much closer than
they used to be. Every time I buy something and see that it is made in
China (or some other Asian nation) I wonder what I have contributed to
poor working conditions for factory workers, unsustainable resource
harvesting, habitat destruction and environmental pollution. North
America isn't perfect, but we sure have a lot more clout as consumers
when we buy locally than when we buy from offshore suppliers. Speak
