I'm guessing the person quoted from Britian 'Corneal disruption never occurs
in nature' never experienced a good old fashioned thunderstorm complete with
repeated flashes of lightning......

One of my fondest owling experiences occurred under a street light at an
intersection controlled by a traffic light. On a pole on one corner of the
intersection sat a owl, watching the road below. While waiting for the
light to change (as was the car on the opposite side of the road) a mouse
meandered into the intersection. The light for us changed to green but we
waited as the owl flew down into the middle of the road, snatched up the
mouse and returned to its pole perch. Only after sitting, amazed, for
another moment or two did myself and the other car proceed into the owl's
former hunting zone. Being a short light, it had turned yellow before
either of us crossed the road. Perhaps the owl had night vision problems
and had learned to use the street light to illuminate its hunting area,
perhaps not.
