Mary,

We're splitting hairs here. Studies have shown that owls see as well as, if
not better than humans in daylight. They're just better adapted to seeing in
the darkness. As it is with most species--including humans--owls adapt to
available light and even learn to take advantage of it. The "disruption of dark
adaptation" is the point of this discussion.
