Hi Tweeters:
Here in DesMoines it has been good for migrants. For the past two days I've
had a few Warbling Vireos, Or-crowned Warbs, Wilson's Warbs, and Yel-rumps
both Audubon's and Myrtles in my backyard. I even got to see the Orange
crown on an Or-c Warb (a lifer view) as it preened behind the leaves of our
prune tree. Three days ago there was also a brief glimpse of a flycatcher
w/ wingbars and faint or missing eye-ring. I suspect it was a Willow
Flycatcher. The warblers seem to be most active in the evening after
6:15pm. Up on 18th street, next to DesMoines Crk Park in the fields I'm
seeing up-close Blk-throated Grays. Yesterday on 18th there were several
Red Crossbills up in a big pine tree, and I could hear Purple Finches. This
same walk on the same street on Friday, the day of the constant rains was
totally quiet. No birds heard or seen. I felt so sorry for Michael Hobbs
and his Big Day team who were out in the rain that day. I think they should
be congratulated for finding so many birds on a day when the birds around
here were gone. Sheesh. Where do they go? ;-)
Yours, Carol Schulz
