Hello Tweeters:
For those who don't know Thais Bock, she lives in Federal Way. Her back
yard is of moderate size. She has a birdbath, and a few feeders. In the
back of the yard there are a few bushes, and varied trees including some
firs. She lives in Marine Hills about a mile from the sound. Despite the
modest yard, she has had a number of interesting yard birds in the past
including a juvenile Marbled Murrelet! The MacGillivray's Warbler in her
yard was very interesting because we do not see them around here.
Thais has been an inspiration to many of us, as she welcomed us to birding
and to Audubon endeavors. She has contributed to several bird books,
including A Birder's Guide to WA by Hal Opperman, for which she wrote the
chapter about Tacoma to DesMoines. She just completed her 25th Year! of
being the Kent-Auburn CBC compiler. She also created the count circle.
After 25 years as the compiler, she is resigning the post. I wonder if 25
years could be a record amount of time as compiler?!
Thais no longer ventures out of state to go on big birding adventures. But
last year she attended the Kettle Valley Birding Festival, and I believe her
team won for most species! Thais Bock should be congratulated for all her
contributions to the birding community.
Yours, Carol Schulz
