Hi Bill:
I bird in the San Jose area often and think the best place in that neck of
the woods is the Palo Alto Baylands... great for Clapper Rails, shorebirds and
marsh birds. Some folks like the ponds near Los Gatos but they are normally
not as productive as the Baylands.

One thing you might consider... If you join the San Francisco Bay Bird
Observatory ($35 or $20 senior/student), they will give you the combination to the
entry gate of a great private birding area in Alviso.
