Tweets,

I got out to Brady Loop for a little while this afternoon, where I
ran into Ruth and Patrick Sullivan with some other birders. Patrick
promptly located a flock of Whimbrels, which we watched as they
circled around and the settled into the field. Ruth said, "I estimate
a hundred and fifty." So after they left, I counted: a hundred and
fifty-five. In truth, there were probably a few more, as some birds
were moving around as I was counting and likely got missed. Still,
not bad Ruth.

There was one bird in the flock that I couldn't identify: it was
greyer, slightly smaller and with a straight bill. But it was at a
distance that even with a scope, I culdn't comfortably make a call on
it. So if anyone else is out there looking through that flock, see
what else you might find.

As I was leaving home, there was a bird flitting around in the
understory next to the garage. Binoculars revealed a male
Black-throated Grey Warbler poking around in the salal and willow. I
almost never see these guys less than about 30 feet up, it was a real
treat to see one so close. The first time, infact, that I've ever
seen the striping on the back.

Also, the first Western Tanager at the house this morning. Not a bad day...
