The following birds were seen on Lummi Island by Wayne Weber between
10:30 AM and 4:00 PM on May 3, 2005.

The weather was quite good, changing from cloudy before noon to
mostly sunny in the afternoon. Winds were light, making it easy to
spot and count waterbirds.

Noteworthy birds included a VIRGINIA RAIL seen at
close range in the marsh on Tuttle Lane near Legoe Bay Road; a HOUSE
WREN singing farther north on Tuttle Lane; at least 12 RED CROSSBILLS
still present at and near the post office; high counts of RHINOCEROS
AUKLETS and PIGEON GUILLEMOTS; and two TURKEY VULTURES (not sure how unusual
these are on the island).

Almost no obvious migrant landbirds were seen (except for the HERMIT
THRUSH); nearly all the warblers, vireos, etc. appeared to be birds
on breeding territories.

Unidentified birds seen included at least 500 scoters in The Narrows
area, and 500 unidentified ducks to the NE toward Lummi Bay.

Mammals observed included 12 HARBOR SEALS seen on and near the rocks
at Point Migley, and two DOUGLAS SQUIRRELS heard in forested areas.
