Tweets,
Yesterday (Sat May 7) we found a Semipalmated Plover
on Damon Point, Ocean Shores, with a variant plumage.

All the dark areas of plumage were a medium brown
color, matching the color of the back, with NO area of
pure black. The bill was solid black, the feet and
legs were the standard orange color. Even Juvenile
pluamge is darkedr than what we saw.
The pattern matched for a Semipalm, it was not a Snowy
(it was too dark, and the neck band was complete).
It was associating with a group of about 5 other
SemiPalm Plovers, about 50-75 yards from the parking
area, on the bay side.
I've looked thru my books, and have not seen a
reference to any variant like this.
Is this an example of a Leucastic individual? Anyone
have any other ideas?
Thanks!
Guy
