Today, at the Grays Harbor National Wildlife Refuge in Hoquiam, there were about 5,000 (guestimate) shorebirds present. The usual mix continues with Western Sandpiper, Dunlin, and Semipalmated Plover being the top three in numbers. Red Knots were also present in good numbers. At least one Short-billed Dowitcher was seen as well and possibly one Least Sandpiper. Finally, out of the 3 days of the festival, today we were treated to a falcon attack of the Merlin variety. The Merlin really stirred up the shorebirds which is always an amazing sight to witness. It made two unsuccessful passes and then disappeared.

Also, 11 Greater White-fronted Geese were seen at the eastern end of the mudflats.
