If you don't know about this fair, you should check it out. Herons
Forever will be there, along with Seattle Audubon, Rainier Audubon, and
many other nonprofit organizations. There will be a Procession of the
Species parade for the kids, where they get to dress up as their favorite
species. It will be great fun. Please join us! --Rain or shine, in

The 5th Annual Backyard Wildlife Fair is a free, all-day event to educate
and inspire people to welcome wildlife ? such as birds, butterflies, and
other wildlife ? into their backyards, gardens and communities. The event
will host a variety of activities and educational opportunities on how to
attract and support wildlife through garden and landscape practices, and
creating and preserving wildlife habitat in our region. For more

Backyard Wildlife Fair: 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Certified Wildlife Garden Tour: 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

EVENT HIGHLIGHTS:
? Procession of the Species Costume Parade ? a procession of
children of all ages dancing and marching in costumes that mimic their
favorite northwest wildlife animal. (9:00 ? 10:00 a.m.)
? Workshops ? a variety of expert-hosted workshops are offered
including ?Growing Wild ? Creating Wildlife Friendly Gardens,? ?Living
with Wildlife: From Bats to Woodpeckers,? ?Gardening for Butterflies? and
?Carpentry for Critters.? Demonstrations on activities such as
composting, salmon-friendly and water-wise lawn and garden care,
landscaping with native plants, identifying birds, backyard beekeeping,
creating water features for wildlife, building your own birdhouse,
planning your ?Watchable Wildlife? vacations, nature walks and more.
? Children?s Activities ? The fair presents many hands-on
projects for kids, Woodland Park Zoo Wild Wise program, ?Story Time with
Ranger Rick,? costume-making workshops, face-painting, and a host of fun
activities.
? Native Plant Sales ? Talk to the experts about what plants will
thrive on your property, ask about drought-tolerant plants, and have your
questions answered while you purchase the plants that will make your
property a wildlife-friendly paradise.
? Arts and Crafts booths ? Browse gardening and nature related
product booths including plant sales, gain great gift ideas from the many
vendors displaying their wares including artisans from ?Best of the
Northwest Arts & Crafts Show?.
? Garden Tour ? a tour of six to eight certified wildlife habitat
gardens in the Tukwila area. (Begins at 3:00 p.m.)
? Food and music and fun on the shores of the Duwamish River
