I am working on a consultation for a native restoration near a heron colony
and want to know which species of trees Great Blue heron colonies have been
seen in. The colonies I know best are in Black Cottonwood - Populus
balsamifera trichocarpa and Red Alder - Alnus rubra. A Black-crowned heron
colony I remember was in cottonwood. What tree species have people seen
Great Blue heron colonies in. I have some thoughts about preferred colony
site conditions, but the thoughts of others without prejudice from my
thoughts would be best. While I expect to make recommendations that will be
an improvement for the herons, I will consider total locally appropriate
(native) biodiversity in my recommendations.
