Wednesday evening I had the help of two colleagues in installing eight
purple martin gourds on the submerged pilings at Logboom Park at the north
end of Lake Washington. The gourds are about 10 feet over the water on posts
just south and west of the pier. Any reports of their use by any birds
woulds be greatly appreciated. During installation there were several
swallow species checking out the site closely, but no martins.

The city of Kenmore was very supportive of the proposal to get a martin
colony established at the park, but there is also a master plan in the works
that may require some housing adjustments in the future. I assured them that
martins have shown remarkable flexibility in their acceptance of nest
cavities, and these gourds could possibly be moved between nesting seasons
without disruption.
