Dear Bob and Tweeters,

Regarding your question about ducklings and goslings,
I saw an adult Canada Goose with four goslings out on
a river bar near Howard Miller Steelhead Park,
Rockport (Skagit County), May 14.

On Tuesday, May 10, I saw some Mallard ducklings at
the little ponds by Higgins Road, Skagit Regional
Airport, west of Bayview. The problem is, those might
be feral Mallards in that parklike setting, although
the accompanying adult looked reasonably Mallardesque.
This spring, I am seeing Mallards in lots of places in
Skagit County, and I am wondering if they are staying
to breed more this year, or if I am just noticing more
of them. I am certainly not seeing good numbers of
Cinnamon or Blue-winged Teal this spring in Skagit, at
least in the areas I am visiting.

Some friends found 22 Whimbrel near the Butler Flats
yesterday, and I went out and saw them. They were in a
dirt field at the west dead-end of the Dahlstedt Road,
just east of the railroad tracks and west of Old
Highway 99. That is north of the Cook Road exit (exit
232) of I-5 in Skagit County.

Yours truly,

Gary Bletsch
