Hello Tweeters,

This past Sunday I was home all day and saw a female Black-headed Grosbeak at my feeder for the first time since the birds arrived (first heard May 4th, then spotted males May 7th). Then there were two females. By my count there are two males and two females in the immediate neighborhood. They have been visiting my feeder all week, one or two at a time (At least that has been the case when I was looking :-). I have been amazed by how late they come to feed. Last night one of the males popped in at about a quarter before 9 p.m., much later than any other birds visit! So I am wondering if all species of grosbeaks are late evening feeders. And is that why one species is called Evening Grosbeak?

Cheers!
JT
