Hi all,

Around 5 today I noticed that about 35 Crows were gathered in a cacophanous aerial bombardment over a fir tree across the street which contains a Crow nest. After a minute or so, a Red Tail emerged from the tree with a big nestling Crow in her talons. She did not seem too perturbed by her escort of Crows as she flew off. I witnessed the last half of the exact same scene two days ago and was not here yesterday.

As for YardBirds not already on our list, our most notable one, along with a recent showing-up of Rufous Hummingbirds, was our annual Nashville Warbler which came by singing heartily on May 12.

As for YardBirds on other lists, Curt & Bobbi Pearson of South Seattle recently reported a pair of Evening Grosbeaks in their yard, & Sharon Baker added Marbled Murrelet in West Seattle. Guy McWethy has added Hermit Thrush as of 4/27 to reach 51, leading all current Class Residential entrants. Dawn Bailey?s White Pelican over her Eatonville yard still holds as the most unusual YardBird of the year so far reported to the YardBirdRace central offices at Yardbirdrace at yahoo.com.

To see the leaderboard, google YardBirdRace and click on ?I?m feeling lucky.?

Yesterday afternoon a flock of Tundra Swans passed over the downtown, and anyone who saw them out their window would be leading Capitol Hill or the Downtown, which are among the many neighborhoods & towns that have fielded no entries in the YardBirdRace.

At least the top 25 neighborhood, city, county and town winners will receive their choice of either a free one-year subscription to WASHINGTON BIRDER magazine, or a Violet Green Swallow nest box, or a subscription to their local Audubon Society newsletter.

Thanks, Ed Newbold, residential Beacon Hill, newboldwildlife at netscape.net
