On May 10, Dennis Rockwell and Nancy LaFramboise observed a LEWIS'S
WOODPECKER, 2 SPOTTED SANDPIPERS and 6 PINE SISKIN in Two Rivers County
Park in Kennewick. On the following day, the LEWIS'S WOODPECKER and at
least 1 PINE SISKIN remained. In addition there were 2 singing TOWNSEND'S
WARBLERS and a singing WESTERN TANAGER.
Mary Hollen had a male BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK at her feeder in Richland on
May 14.
Also on the 14th, Mike and Mary Lilga had a mini-fallout in their Richland
yard. They found NASHVILLE and YELLOW WARBLERS as well as a WARBLING VIREO
and a WESTERN WOOD-PEWEE.
May 22 started out exciting when Nancy LaFramboise found a TURKEY VULTURE
over Route 240 near the Yakima Delta. It got even better with a singing
NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD at Horn Rapids County Park. The mocking bird was seen
in the day-use area of the park in the smaller group of trees. It often
hid if one walked the path there. By moving off and waiting for the bird
to sing, it was easily re-located. The bird also flew into some very thick
wild rose bushes closer to the river. Also present were TOWNSEND'S and
WILSON'S WARBLERS, a YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT, a WESTERN WOOD-PEWEE, and at
least 2 WESTERN TANAGERS.
To report your own sightings, please give your name, phone number, date,
and sightings after the tone. Thank you.
