Tweets - finally, a nice day. Sunny, cool in the morning but warming,
hardly any wind but enough to keep it from getting hot. Fourteen of us came
out today to see what we could see:

Great Blue Heron Always strange to see one swimming on the lake
Cooper's Hawk One in snag row (1st for a month)
CASPIAN TERN Two flying down the slough
Spotted Sandpiper One on the slough
Willow Flycatcher About 3, singing
Western Wood-Pewee About 2, singing, in cottonwood forest
RED-EYED VIREO One seen singing east of boardwalk
Swainson's Thrush First SONG of the year
Cedar Waxwing Huge numbers, everywhere
Yellow Warbler Several singing males, one or two seen well
Black-headed Grosbeak Many, many, many. Very active
Y-headed Blackbird THREE females in snag row
Bullock's Oriole Pair near mansion

New for the year were the flycatchers, REVI, and YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD.
It was all of our first sightings of YHBL at Marymoor - one or two were
reported from the Community Gardens last year by Graham.

Breeding evidence:

Wood Duck 2 females with large clutches of ducklings
Pied-billed Grebe Adults at nest near lake
Osprey Adults at nest on cell phone tower
Red-tailed Hawk Adult bringing food to 2 young on odd-snag
Red-breasted Sapsucker Exchange at nest just s. of dog area
Tree Swallow Exchange at nest in snag
Black-capped Chickadee Bringing food to nest in snag
Chestnut-backed Chick. Adult feeding fledged young
Bushtit At least 2 families with fledged young
BROWN CREEPER Adults feeding young clustered on tree
Marsh Wren Building nest
American Robin At least 1 spot-breasted seen
European Starling Lots of fledged young, adult with nest material
Cedar Waxwing Several gathering nest materials
Common Yellowthroat Females with nest material
Savannah Sparrow Copulating
Song Sparrow Family with newly fledged young
Dark-eyed Junco 2 fledged young near maintenance barn
Red-winged Blackbird Babies near weir
House Finch Male with 3 fledged young in snag row

Mount Rainier was very pretty today, though I'd forgotten you could see it
from Marymoor (it's been so long since you could). The mosquitoes were
pretty numerous, but not too fierce today. Two large voles crossed our path
at the Rowing Club. Some salmonberries were getting ripe.

For the day, 65 species. For the year, 123 species.
