Hope all of you Tweeters enjoyed the beautiful weather today! Thought I'd
relay a close encounter my husband & I had with a bird this morning.

I had just arrived home around 10:30 AM; I got out of the car & headed
toward the front steps of our house in Edmonds. The door was open, and I
saw a bird fly into the living room through the large open window opposite
the door. Then I saw my husband leap up & start pursuing it. I figured it
was probably a house sparrow, but when I got inside, my husband said he
thought it was a Bewick's wren. Sure enough, when he cornered it behind a
vase & framed photo on a shelf in the entertainment center, it was, in fact,
a Bewick's wren. My husband stuck his hands out the window & opened them,
and the little guy just sat there. And sat there. I got my camera & took
several photos and even stroked the little guy on the head. We think it may
have been a juvenile, partly because it didn't seem to have very strong
flying skills,
and partly because it didn't seem afraid of us. I looked in Sibley and the
juvenile Bewick's doesn't have stripes on the under-tail coverts, and this
one didn't, either. Anyway, after maybe 5 minutes, it flew to the deck
railing, where it sat for a while, and then off into the yard, so all's well
that ends well.
