Sightings for May 26

On the 25th, a flock of 13 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS were seen flying over
Kaleden in the South Okanagan (DCa).

A CASPIAN TERN was seen in flight over Okanagan Falls on May 24 (GD).

The bird of the day on the Okanagan Valley Big Day held May 22 was an adult
BROAD-WINGED HAWK at Kilpoola Lake W. of Osoyoos (LR,ED,GR,BM).

A BOREAL OWL was heard at km 25 on the Shuttleworth Ck Road on the 22nd as
well (TF,MF,RM,DW).

SPRUCE GROUSE, PINE GROSBEAKS, BOREAL CHICKADEES, FOX SPARROW and GRAY JAYS
were tallied in the spruce forest between km 22 and 27 on the Shuttleworth
Ck Road on the big day (CC,KK,DCa,GDa,m.ob).

At Km 15 on the Venner Meadows Road, 2 BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKERS, a
WILLIAMSON'S SAPSUCKER and a BARRED OWL were highlights
(CC,KK,DCa,GDa,RT,m.ob).

Five GRAY-CROWNED ROSY-FINCHES were seen at Apex Mountain W. of Penticton on
the 22nd (AK).

A BLACK TERN, a BLACK SWIFT and a LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER were at Rose's Pond
on the Vernon Commonage on the Big Day (CC,RC,m.ob).

Along the access road to Kekuli Park, approx 1 km E. of the park gate was a
family group of 4 LONG-EARED OWLS (CC,KK,DCa,GDa).

On May 20 an imm. DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT was at Otter Lake N. of Vernon
(GDa).


Sightings for May 19

On the 15th of May a male HARLEQUIN DUCK was seen at Okanagan Falls (JL). It
was present again on the 17th (DCa).

Seven WHITE-WINGED and 7 SURF SCOTERS were off the Maude Roxby Bird
Sanctuary in Kelowna on the 17th (MF,BC). Also here were 6 RED-BREASTED
MERGANSERS (MF).

A PACIFIC LOON was seen on Okanagan Lake off Kalamoir Park on Kelowna's
Westside on May 16 (LR,EF).

GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS were reported at 2 different private residences on
the 16th (LR,GW).

At Robert Lake on the 17th were 2 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES and a PECTORAL
SANDPIPER (MF).

A SEMIPALMATED PLOVER was at Robert Lake on the 19 (CC,m.ob).

At km 1 on the Bear Lake FSR off Westside Road on Kelowna's Westside was a
calling COMMON POORWILL on the 19th (CC,m.ob). Along the side road that
takes off to the right at km 11 on Bear Lake Road at least 3 FLAMMULATED
OWLS were heard and seen (CC,m.ob).


Sightings for May 15

Two DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS were seen at the N. end of Duck Lake in
Kelowna (JM).
