an amazing place, even with all of the ATVs running around creating little
weather systems full of dust and dirt... my first chore upon coming home
was washing the half-ton of dust and dirt from my face and... oh, too much
information? sorry... :)

among the beauties seen and/or heard this weekend (that i wouldn't normally
see in my neck of puget sound), please note photos of the white-headed
woodpecker (and nest!), red-naped sapsucker, pygmy nuthatches (and nest!),
house wrens, chipping sparrows, townsend's solitaires (and nest!), vaux's
swift (the cigar with wings!), and western bluebirds everywhere... other
folks will probably report on the flammulated owl, the lewis' woodpecker,
macgillivray's and nashville warblers, pewees and flycatchers, vespers
sparrows, black-chinned and calliope hummers, and williamson's sapsucker
(also among others)...

oh, and ask carol schulz about the chats... :)

i have to say, i was talked into this trip at the last moment, but once
there i found it most enjoyable, and will endeavour to visit in the
future... next time, i'll remember to take more appropriate camping gear,
too :) for what it's worth, everyone was extremely friendly and most
helpful in locating some of the more fascinating critters, but i'd have to
single out carol, tora roksvog, deb (?), and two gentlemen (whom i wish i'd
had the presence of mind to enquire of their names when hunting the
solitaire and later along the morning creek tour) for their IDs and location
information, hospitality and general good humour...

wenas photos are currently located within the PHOTOS of the MONTH portion of
www.parkgallery.org, and will eventually (later tonight perhaps?) also be
available in the regular BIRDS gallery as well... i hope you enjoy viewing
the pics as much as i enjoyed taking them :)
