Rare Bird Alert for LARK SPARROW


Sightings for Monday, May 30

A LARK SPARROW was seen at Iona Island, Richmond, on the south
side of the southeast sewage pond.


Sightings for Sunday, May 29

At Iona Island, a female WILSON'S PHALAROPE was at the southeast
sewage pond along with a SEMIPALMATED PLOVER.
6 YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS were at the outer pond.

A GRAY CATBIRD was along the nature dyke trail at Grant Narrows
Park in Pitt Meadows, and another GRAY CATBIRD was seen at the
last bend in Rannie Road before Grant Narrows.

A COMMON NIGHTHAWK was over Burns Drive in south Burnaby.

6 male LAZULI BUNTINGS were at Colony Farm in Coquitlam.


Sightings for Saturday, May 28

The first RED-EYED VIREOS of the year were seen at Surrey Lake and at
Crescent Park, both in Surrey.

The YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was again heard at Reifel.

A CHIPPING SPARROW was seen near the bridge at the Maplewood
Conservation Area in North Vancouver.


Sightings for Friday, May 27

A YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was heard at the Reifel Bird Sanctuary in
Delta, for several hours, but the bird was in a restricted area, so
permission and directions should first be obtained from John
Ireland, the sanctuary manager.


Sightings for Thursday, May 26

The first EASTERN KINGBIRDS were seen at Pitt Meadows, with 3 birds
along Rannie Road near the dyke. Also in the area were 2 WESTERN
KINGBIRDS and 3 WILLOW FLYCATCHERS.


Sightings for Wednesday, May 25

2 CLARK'S NUTCRACKERS were seen at Mount Seymour Provincial
Park in North Vancouver, from the upper parking lot, as they flew just
below the top of the mountain.

4 BARN OWLS were observed at Westham Island about 1 kilometer from
the Reifel Bird Sanctuary.

A GREEN HERON was at Surrey Lake, off 152nd Street in Surrey.


Sightings for Tuesday, May 24

2 WESTERN KINGBIRDS were at Colony Farm on the Port Coquitlam side,
south of the foot bridge.
