Hello Tweeters:
Last night one of my neighbors, who had brought his sons to my house for
Trick or Treat, pointed out that there was feathers sticking out of the
vent hole under my eaves. Being Halloween I was a bit skeptical but he
insisted I take a look and sure enough, I could see the hind end of a
small bird in the hole. It looked just like a bird just entering a bird
house. The vent holes have screen on the attic side of them so what I
thought was that the screen was torn and this little fellow had gone in
part way and got stuck. Having Trick or treaters coming and going I
couldn't do anything about it right then. A couple of hours later I when
to get a better look but in the darkness of shadows and night I couldn't
see very clearly so I decided to wait till morning. Today when the sun
was up I looked and the bird was gone. No sign of it on the sidewalk or
door step. I got the ladder and took a close look in the vent hole, the
screen looks intact. So now I'm wondering do birds of prey stash food
like jays and nuthatches do? Could it have been stashed there and
retrieved later?
Any guesses , or explanations are welcome.
