At Wolf Haven, a wolf sanctuary in Tenino, there are large groups of
ravens (25-30) constantly skirmishing about in the trees, croaking all
the while. The staff told me they are always present. The land there,
which is jointly owned with The Nature Conservancy, is comprised of mima
mounds, prairie, and Garry oak forests; visitors are allowed to wander
the area freely, and in that habitat it appeared that there must be some
great birding. I also saw Turkey Vultures riding some thermals off a
ridge across the prairie. Any nature enthusiast would surely enjoy a
visit to Wolf Haven; the setting is incredible, especially after sunset
when the wolves begin to howl.
