Hello Gene,
I never doubt you what you saw.You have such a long experience with birds, and also this bird is whiter than white.I was so lucky to walk away from the group including Patrick where all he birders been staying for a long time. And no Ivory showed up.I took the car and drove around. When I saw a white spot in a distance what I never believed to be the Ivory Gull. The Gull was feeding on a dead duck and probable was starving the way he was ripping that Duck apart. This is wy I got so close to take this photos.I went and alerted the other birders and all was OK.What a great bird to see.How about he place on the Elwha River where large group of Gulls congregate or Idez Hook on the logs and jetty? Is the right time of year to for this species to show up.It is worth checking all the places out since this species don't be seeing often here on the coastline.

Cheers Ruth

Ruth:
Veddy iterrresting that you saw an Ivory Gull at Robert Banks, BC in December, 2001. Nice pictures. Question I have it looks as if your bird had red legs according to the picture. But it might be some bit of red material it's standing on and not its leg.
Anyways, looks like what I saw the other day at Three Crabs.
One sees so damned many gulls in this part of the state it's possible one might see a rarity among them.
But as I always say, expect the unexpected.
Gene

Hello Tweeters,

Here are few photos I took of the Ivory Gull in Roberts Banks BC in December of 2001
It is possible that the Ivory Gull from the Three Crabs area is still around some place. The Gull in a distance looked like white paper on the jetty, but checking it out that is what it was, an all white Ivory Gull. The Ivory Gull photos can be seen at the following link: http://www.pbase.com/godwit/november05photos/
