Hiya tweets,

After lunching with a friend at Chutneys today, I decided to go see what I could find at Carkeek Park in NW Seattle this afternoon. Glad I did!

Early on, I could hear a number of birds flitting around above me, chickadees and kinglets and bushtits and the like. I started up the trail going towards the north meadow from the main playground above the beach and finally found a very noisy spot. Setting myself under a bit of cover for camoflage, I started to pish. Within seconds I had a pair of Red-breasted Nuthatches, at least 20 Golden-crowned Kinglets, a dozen or so Ruby-crowned Kinglets, 3 Hutton's Vireos, some Winter and Bewick's Wrens and a whole bunch of Chestnut-backed and Black-capped Chickadees all surrounding me and making a tremendous racket! I kept up and soon spotted a lovely male Townsends Warbler who came down to check out the commotion as well. Very beautiful bird!

I continued on this trail for a while and then wound back to the beach. There were a couple of large flocks of Surf Scoters out in the Sound, as well as some Double-crested Cormorants, a Horned Grebe, a couple Western Grebes and 8 Common Mergansers that flew in, in addition to the always present Mallards and 150 or so American Wigeon. I saw some action behind me and looked up where there were some crows flying past, and spotted 2 Bald Eagles! I'll have to admit, it was starting to bother me that I had seen exactly zero eagles up here since getting back from my summer in Central Cali. Well, I finally spotted a couple and they were a joy to see!

All in all, I don't know how many species I saw today. Don't particularly care. I just know I got to spend part of a wonderful fall afternoon doing what I love to do most - wandering around a park enjoying nature, especially birds. Cheers y'all!
