Birders,

The male KING EIDER, present off Dundarave Pier at the foot of 25th
Street in West Vancouver from October 30 to November 1, has moved.
On November 2, it (plus the large flock of scoters it was with) was reported
by several observers off Ferguson Point, between Second Beach and
Third Beach in Stanley Park, Vancouver. This is about 3 or 4 miles, as the
eider flies, from Dundarave Pier.

Birders looking for the eider should note that there is pay parking
throughout Stanley Park, and I believe it is in effect throughout the year.
There is parking available right at the restaurant at Ferguson Point, or
in the nearby Third Beach parking lot.

This KING EIDER is following the pattern of other King Eiders which
wintered in the Vancouver area in the 1970s and 1980s-- sticking
with the large flocks of Surf Scoters as they move about English Bay,
even as they move across the bay from West Vancouver to Vancouver
or vice versa. We will try to keep birders posted on the latest locality for
the King Eider. However, if you don't see it where it was last reported,
look for the nearest large flock of Surf Scoters-- it will probably be with
them.

Good luck and good birding,
