Just before dark today, I took a quick spin around half of the Brady Loop area and ended with a drive back to Elma via Wenzel Slough Rd.. Near the intersection of Brady Loop Rd. and Foster Rd., there was a Rough-legged Hawk perched on top of a utility pole. It was tearing apart some kind of prey animal it had caught. It was nice to see a true sign of winter.

Also, along the western end of Wenzel Slough Rd., viewed from the hunter registration kiosk at Bill Goeres farm, there was a good sized group of about 50 Black-bellied Plovers. I didn't have a scope to look for any oddballs.

Lastly, for those that may be headed to the coast soon, be on the lookout for a herd of elk along Highway 12 just before the Satsop exit on the north side of the highway. The herd has been there for a couple weeks and they seem to favor the Satsop Bulb Farm fields.
