Howdy -

There were Blue Jays showing up at multiple locations in the inland
northwest about a month ago so that in itself is not significant. They are
often found in the same locations year to year which suggests winter site
fidelity.

A small number of Blue Jays regularly winter in the northern half of Idaho
and usually start showing up in early October and depart in April or May.
Despite the large incursion into the region last winter there were very few
over-summering reports in Idaho - the only ones I have heard of were in
Grangeville and Coeur d'Alene. The latter location likely hosts a breeding
pair which have been reported for several years now - although somes years
it seems that it is a Steller's/Blue Jay pair.

I believe Mike Denny is starting a CBC centered at Dayton which should
provide some interesting data for this location.

thanks, Charles.
