Will someone please clarify this issue for me. I read the article that Dennis sent and it is a bit technical for me to grasp.

What I do not understand is how this virus is becoming such a worry that it could kill millions of humans if they say it does not pose a threat now. I have heard reports on NPR for weeks and now that GWB is involved it is even more in our face. Why should we spend billions to research this? Is this sensationalism by the press or a real problem when the virus mutates? If it has only killed a few people in China, how do they extrapolate to possibly killing millions?
