Hello Tweets,
We have just updated our November 05 gallery on our website with 23 new photos of recent sightings including the following species:
November 5th,2005
Long-tailed Duck at the Hoquiam STP
November 6th,2005
Rock Sandpipers and Surfbirds at the Westport Marina
adult Peregrine Falcon at Midway Beach Rd.
Great Blue Heron at the Tokeland Marina
November 7th,2005
Ruff at the Ocean Shores STP
Ruddy Turnstone at the Damon Point"pond"
Our Ruff photos are mainly for "proof" and not for quality due poor lighting conditions and distance to the bird, but were far better than the photos we obtained of the Gyrfalcon earlier in the afternoon. The Gyrfalcon was much, much farther away and since most of the Oyhut Wildlife Area was still quite flooded we were very limited in getting any photos. The bird seemed to favor the farthest area from us along the edge of the wildlife area, but good food sources occur so perhaps the bird may stay for awhile longer. We shall try again if we see the bird in upcoming days! We are very pleased at our Peregrine Falcon photos and the bird was very cooperative and was probably way too full or tired to fly away even after we were done taking photos of it! We observed it attempting to cough up a pellet, bones or something,as a few of the photos indicate. We never saw the bird actually cough up any object and perhaps all it was doing was just coughing. This is a behavior we have never observed in a Peregrine Falcon, but maybe other observers have that read this message.
The address to our latest photos can be accessed by clicking the following link: http://www.pbase.com/godwit/november05photos/ .We hope you all enjoy our recent photos,as well as any other photos from our website!
Sincerely,
Ruth and Patrick Sullivan
