I was in Olympia today for the Forest Practice Board meeting on Spotted Owls. I was staying at the Ramada in near Capital lake and I was able to see the lake from my hotel room with binocs. There was 100's of scaup on the lake with probably 50-60 Buffleheads, many of them drakes in beautiful breeding plumage. There were a few small groups of American Widgeon feeding close to shore and one group contained a drake Eurasian Widgeon molting into breeding plumage. Also noted were a few coots, a Pied-billed Grebe and a few flocks of unidentified gulls.
