Hello, The bird discovered yesterday by Patrick and Ruth Sullivan was again
seen this morning in strong winds and rain at the Ocean Shores Sewage
Treatment Plant (see Patrick's post for directions). Though I see in a
previous post that questions have been raised regarding this bird's ID, at
the site a number of this bird's features were rather convincing, including
the distinctive "cricket-like trill" call. I arrived at 6:45am and shortly
after located the bird at the north end of the southwestern most pond. A
short time later Bob Morse arrived and we both viewed the bird as it fed and
moved about, sometimes calling, until a Peregrine Falcon put up all the
birds on the pond at 7:40am. The stint rose up high in the sky and seemed to
disappear off in the direction of the game range. At 8:00am the gates were
unlocked and we were able to enter the grounds of the facility. The bird was
nowhere to be found on the pond edge until a short time later, when I again
heard a repeated "cricket-like trill" as the bird came in and landed on the
north end of the pond. Patrick and Ruth arrived a short time later and when
I left they were still with the bird. Expect a detailed report from them
this evening.
Thanks,
Keith Brady
