by the time i got to constellation park (about 930 or so), there was nothing
but crows and starlings feeding at the tide line, and one identifiable male
black scoter about 50 metres out...

however, there was a large raft of western grebes on the "statue of liberty"
side of alki, perhaps 150 or so in four groups 100 metres offshore...
red-necked and western grebes were highlights for the fishing dock west of
jack block. at jack block itself, there were red-breasted mergansers and
numerous barrow's goldeneye males about 40 metres out from the easternmost
point... and thanks to kevin li, when the purple martins come back next
year, jack block park will be high on my list for where to see them
upclose...

an adult bald eagle was seen directly overhead at constellation park,
soaring without effort in a VERY brisk wind...

photos on my website under "Photos of the Month"...

In other stops along Alki Beach to Constellation Park, I picked up
Harlequin Ducks, Surf Scoters and a Black Scoter right up next to shore,
diving and feeding. Circled back under the West Seattle freeway and hit
T-107 park on the Duwamish. Good thing - picked up a Bald Eagle on one of
the pilings, in addition to Gadwalls, Mallards, American Wigeon and
Green-winged Teal all feeding in the brackish water
