Hello all birders,

The Temminck's Stint was again observed today by up to 80 birders at the southwest pond of the Ocean Shores Sewage Treatment Plant at Ocean Shores in coastal Grays Harbor Co.(in Washington State). Birders came again across Washington,as well as many birders from Oregon and British Ciolumbia with birders from as far away as California and Florida! Birders came all day long to view the bird as it continued it regular foraging along the rocky shoreline of the pond and it never left our sight for too long! It seemed very comfortable even when a Peregrine Falcon made a pass over the pond at 12pm. Birders again viewed the bird from the outside of the fence and there was no trouble at all seeing the bird since so many birders watched it! The weather remained good all day long, but quite cold at times with fairly cold, heavy westerly winds until about 11:45am. We kept track of the bird until 2:30pm when we left for home and left the bird with up to 10 birders. The Ruff was also observed at the same pond by many observers after 12:15pm,when it was spotted amongst a Long-billed Dowitcher flock with several Northern Shovelers nearby. A single Red Phalarope was observed by 2 other birders nearby in the flooded portion of the Oyhut Wildlife Area, which was a noteworthy sighting.

An afternoon walk of the Oyhut Wildlife Area produced a few highlights including the following:

1 male Harlequin Duck
14 Black Scoters
4 Northern Harriers
1 Cooper's Hawk
5 Black-bellied Plovers
11 Semipalmated Plovers
1 Ruddy Turnstone

Nearby, two separate visits at the Ocean Shores(Point Brown)Jetty yielded the following species during "breaks' while watching the Temminck's Stint:

4 Red-throated Loons
1 Red-necked Grebe
4 Western Grebes
5 Brown Pelicans
8 Black Scoters
1 Ruddy Turnstone(different individual bird than noted at the Oyhut Wildlife Area)
11 Black Turnstones
32 Surfbirds
6 Rock Sandpipers

Before leaving Ocean Shores we made a quick check of the Cabana Pond, which produced a single Eared Grebe and 20 Ring-necked Ducks.

On our way home we stopped by the Hoquiam STP at 3:30pm and located 2 Pacific Loons resting on the main pond, which was our personal first record at this location and figured they were blown in by the heavy winds. Other noteworthy species at this location included the following:

1 Common Loon
3 Greater White-fronted Geese(flying over)
15 Canvasbacks
2 Common Goldeneyes
5 Bonaparte's Gulls

Good birding,
